A Little About Ms. Sikes
A Little About Miss Sikes
When I graduated high school, I decided to attend Millersville University in Lancaster County, where I had received a scholarship for mathematics. Then, I graduated from Millersville with a Bachelors in Secondary Education in Mathematics and a minor in Spanish. I started teaching in a middle school in Lancaster County. Then I received my permanent position here at CASHS and I have been teaching here since 2011.
In 2015, I earned my Master's Degree in Educational Development and Strategies through Wilkes University. And I am currently attending Shippensburg University for a Master's in K-12 School Counseling.
Outside of school (yes I have a life apart from school :D) I enjoy running, walking my dog, and reading. I also have a part-time job that I work at a couple nights a week. My dog is a German Shepherd and she is very energetic and crazy.
Here in the Chambersburg Area School District, we use an instructional method called PowerTeaching in grades 2-12.
There will be a 10-15 minute lesson to introduce and teach the concept of the day.
The students will be in teams where the students will be working together to practice problems on the concept of the day. They will be able to help each other and ask questions of each other to solve the problems during this time. They will make sure that they are keeping each other accountable so that they can each master the content.
If they are not able to answer the questions in their teams, they are able to ask the teacher. The teacher will be monitoring and observing during this time to make sure the teams are on task and working on things correctly.
