Procedures and Policies
WHEN YOU CAN COME TO THE LIBRARY
- You may come to the library on your own before school from 7:30-8:00 AM or after school from 2:45-3:00 PM. No Smart Pass is required to come to the library at those times.
- You may drop by the library between classes to return materials or quickly borrow a book. No Smart Pass is required to do so, but please note that library staff will not create a Smart Pass to send you to class late.
- You may come to the library on your own during the following times, provided you have teacher permission, a Smart Pass, and your student ID: lunch, academic prep/study hall, and activities period.
- If you are coming to the library during academic prep/study hall or lunch, you must stay the entire period (or lunch wave) and may not leave early. So plan accordingly and do not leave anything behind in study hall or the cafeteria.
SMART PASSES
- You must have your student ID and a Smart Pass to come to library.
- Upon arriving to the library, go to the teacher desk by the yellow wall. Show your ID to the library staff member, sign in on the clipboard, choose a seat, and place your cell phone in the cell phone parking lot.
- At the end of the period (or lunch wave), don't forget to take your cell phone with you.
GENERAL PROCEDURES
- When coming to the library to stay for a while (and not just dropping by between classes), sign in at the sign-in book at the teacher desk by the yellow wall.
- Sit at any of the tables or computers in the FRONT area of the library by the yellow and blue walls.
- Please sit one person per table.
- Please work quietly.
- Feel free to use one of our desktop computers.
- If you use a desktop computer, please use one along the yellow and blue walls. (The "center computers" and library computer lab are used for scheduled classes only.)
- Please use your time in the library to complete school work or read.
- You may NOT have a backpack or gym bag; you will need to leave those in your locker.
LIBRARY FINES
- The library does not charge late fees. If you have not returned a library book by its due date, you will have one month to return it. After that, you will be charged the price of the book. If you find the book and return it afterwards, you no longer have to pay the price of the book, unless the book is damaged or the library has purchased a new copy of the book.
- If you owe an overdue print library book or a library fine, you are NOT permitted to borrow another library print book until you take care of the overdue book or fine. But you ARE permitted to borrow ebooks.
- You will have to pay any money owed to the library before you are permitted to graduate.
PRINT BOOKS
- You do NOT need a school ID card to borrow a book. You simply can tell us your name and we can look you up in our system. But if you DO have your ID card, it makes the process a bit faster.
- You may borrow a maximum of 5 print books at a time.
- You may keep print books for 3 weeks.
- Each print book that you borrow will get a date due card placed in the pocket in the back of the book. On that card you will see the date that you must return the book to the library.
- If you need a print book longer than three weeks, you can log into your Destiny account and renew the book online or you can drop by the library in person to renew the book. You would not need the book with you to do so.
EBOOKS
- You may borrow a maximum of 2 ebooks at a time.
- You may keep ebooks for 2 weeks.
- The ebooks automatically return themselves, so you will never get a library fine on an ebook.
- If you need an ebook longer than two weeks, please go into Sora before the due date and renew the ebook.
ENGLISH DEPARTMENT NOVELS
- The library houses class sets of novels that English teachers might use in class.
- Library staff will check out these novels to individual students when they are reading a certain novel for English class.
- These novels do NOT count as one of the five print books that you can have checked out. So you could borrow five print library books AND an English Department novel at the same time.
- There is no specific due date for English Department novels. You simply return the novel once you finish with it in English class.
- If you do not return an English Department novel by the end of the school year, you will be billed for it and will have to pay for the book in the main office.
